DLBC Leadership Issues Statement Following Recent Officer-Involved Shooting in Wilmington

WILMINGTON— In response to the recent officer-involved shooting in Wilmington, Delaware Legislative Black Caucus Chair Rep. Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Vice Chair Rep. Franklin Cooke released the following statement:

“We have been made aware of and are closely monitoring the recent officer-involved shooting that took place this week in Wilmington.

“As this situation remains under investigation, we believe it is important that the investigative process proceed thoroughly and transparently. We respect the role of the Delaware Department of Justice and the Wilmington Police Department in conducting a full and impartial investigation, and we expect the findings to be shared openly with the community, and especially with the family of Kadir Skinner.

“In recent years, the Delaware Legislative Black Caucus has worked to implement efforts to strengthen both public safety and law enforcement accountability. We remain committed to ensuring that those entrusted to serve our communities are held to the highest professional standards and recognize the important job they have in keeping our communities safe.

“We also recognize that incidents like this can be deeply traumatic not only for those directly involved, but for the whole community. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, and we look forward to a complete and transparent accounting of the facts.”
