Alonna Berry Becomes Newest Member of the Delaware General Assembly

August 12, 2025

DOVER – On Tuesday, August 12, Alonna Berry was officially sworn in to serve as Representative of the 20th House District.

Along with founding The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence in Georgetown, DE, Berry has served as a teacher, an AmeriCorps service member, and Director of Community and Family Services and Senior Policy Advisor for Health, Equity, and Education for the Carney Administration.

She is currently the Executive Director of the Delaware Center for Justice.

“I have dedicated my entire life to helping my community thrive, and now as State Representative, I have a new set of tools to continue that work,” said Rep. Alonna Berry.

“I understand that I am entering this position during an extremely difficult time for our state and nation. People are struggling, and it’s our job to ease their burdens. I am ready to hit the ground running and help my neighbors across the state not just survive, but thrive.”

A mother of two and a resident of Milton, DE, Berry’s service has been recognized widely across Delaware. Some of her honors include the MillSummit Spur Impact Award, the Sussex County Health Coalition Community Partner Award, and the Jefferson Award for Public Service for the Delmarva region. In 2020, she was named one of Delaware Business Times’ 40 Under 40.

“It’s always exciting to welcome a new member to the General Assembly, and Representative Alonna Berry brings an impressive record of service to the House,” said House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown.

“Rep. Berry’s background in education, health, and public service in both government and the private sector will be a tremendous asset to our work. We are proud to have her in our caucus and excited to work with her as she begins serving the people of the 20th District and the First State.”

Berry is filling former Representative Stell Parker-Selby’s vacated seat, who resigned on June 24, 2025, to continue recovering from a medical event that occurred earlier this year.

Berry’s top priorities include guaranteeing a quality education for every Delawarean, improving public safety, engaging in smart growth, increasing the state’s supply of affordable housing, and promoting clean energy initiatives.
